  There was no double rooms available, even though we had reserved one. We had to wait while they sorted it out (10 mins). Then when we got our room it was occupied - we walked in on a lady lying on her bed. Back downstairs to sort it out (15 mins). We were not happy. They bought us a drink while we waited, eventually we got our room. Ok hotel but brutal check-in experience.

  The location was good and parking facilities were great.

  The decor needs updating, the curtains needed repair, hemming and new hooks. Bathroom was grungy and dirty. The hotel lobby was under repair due to new restaurant building, the cost should have reflected this in a % discount.

  The price was right, although you have to account for an extra $23 a day for parking. Good pool for the kids and a comfortable clean room. \Lots of restaurants and coffee shops nearby. We were at West Edmonton Mall for most of our trip but it was nice to show the kids the street performers and the high rises that make it a city trip and get a nice break from "the mall"

  It was a beautiful hotel. Older, which I like, had nice character. Loved the hammered brass elevator doors. Great location, easy walking distance to the restaurant we were going to for dinner, and then just a few minutes walk to the casino afterwards. Our stay was very pleasant, relaxing. A perfect, mini get-away.

  The friendly greeting

  When we got to our room there was no extra pillows, and it definately wasn't the cleanest, there was used dirty cups under the bed along with many other things and there was no remote !

  The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Hotel was very quiet, despite its downtown location. An easy walk to most downtown venues. For a nominal fee ($4.50) you can access an excellent gym located in a nearby mall (connected to the hotel by pedway). Room service was excellent.

  The hotel doesn't have a business centre for guest use (ie - no cubicles with computer or printer access). Signage to the gym was lacking -- it was difficult to find. Also, the Sutton seems to have a much more restrictive cancellation policies than many other hotels -- in my case, if I needed to cancel my reservation with less than 15 days notice, I faced a penalty of one night's fee. When I visited, the hotel restaurants were closed for extensive rennovations, although the hotel had set up restaurant service in a meeting room, and room service was still operating, so it really wasn't a problem.

  North-facing room had a great nighttime view.

  For some reason, and this is becoming more common in general, cleaning staff knocked on my room door on two separate occasions the morning prior to check-out to clean the room. Why interrupt guests that haven't checked out yet if they still have time until checkout?
